VB1 Vertical Break Switch
VB1 Vertical Break Switch
All the mechanical transmission components are accessible from outside the current path. There are no parts hidden inside the conductors. All parts are fabricated from extruded aluminum or machined from solid billet materials, such as 304 stainless steel and hard drawn copper.
Ratings: 15kV-245kV, 600A-5000A
- Maintenance-free dry lubricant bearings
- Non-magnetic hardware
- Great for coastal environments
Key features of our VB1 Vertical Break Switch
The VB1 is built from premium materials, including high‑conductivity 6063‑T6 aluminum for current‑carrying parts, non‑magnetic hardware in the current path, and a hot‑dip galvanized steel base. This ensures long‑term durability, corrosion resistance and excellent performance in harsh or coastal environments.
Its dry‑lubricated, sealed bearings eliminate routine lubrication needs, ensuring smooth and reliable operation with minimal maintenance throughout the switch’s lifetime.
The switch uses field‑replaceable, silver‑plated, hard‑drawn copper contacts supported by multiple spring‑loaded fingers. This design reduces current density, improves conductivity and simplifies onsite service.
The hinge mechanism is counterbalanced so the blade naturally swings backward before 90° during opening. During closing, the blade aligns itself with the jaw and enters axially, guaranteeing consistent contact pressure and a perpendicular final position every time.
The closed position is designed to be clearly visible from ground level, enabling safe and quick status checks without requiring elevated inspection.
The VB1 is suitable for horizontal, vertical or underhung mounting, allowing installation flexibility in both new and retrofit substation layouts.
It can be operated manually via swing handle or worm gear, or automatically using a motor operator, supporting a wide range of operational requirements.
An optional ice hood can be added to shield the jaw assembly and prevent ice accumulation, ensuring reliable performance in cold climates.
