VG1 Folding Vertical Break Switch

The Folding Vertical Break is designed with a simplicity that makes it reliable and easy to operate and maintain. All the mechanical transmission components are accessible from outside the current path. There are no parts hidden inside the conductors. Twin gear-set/pull-rod assemblies provide easy adjustment and stability. All parts are fabricated from extruded aluminum or machined from solid billet materials, such as 304 stainless steel and hard drawn copper.

Key features of our VG1 Folding Vertical Break Switch

The blade height in the open position is only half that of a conventional vertical break switch, allowing lower bus and structure heights. This compact geometry also reduces sensitivity to wind and seismic forces.

The operating linkage is better balanced than in traditional designs, enabling smoother, faster operation with less mechanical stress throughout the transmission chain.

In heavy wet snow or ice, the weight on each half‑blade section counterbalances the other. This prevents increased operating effort, making the design ideal for rugged climates.

Contact pressure is delivered by proven spring‑loaded contact fingers, eliminating the need for mechanically actuated jaw systems used in other semi‑pantograph designs.

The gear sets are made from aircraft‑grade high‑strength aluminum and are doubled for improved reliability, load distribution and long‑term performance.

The operating and balancing system is not concealed inside the blade, ensuring easy inspection, adjustment and maintenance.

The mechanical system is tested for 2,000 operating cycles, ensuring durability and long service life.

All current transfer points use EMSPEC’s established multi‑finger spring‑loaded contact system, ensuring low current density and consistent conductivity.
